About Us

The exposed brick walls and post and beam design serve as a reminder of an important past. Built in 1910 and powered by the Winooski River , the Champlain Mill produced fine worsted wool products until 1954. The demise of textile milling in the Northeast did not spare the mill. The building served as a warehouse until it was restored in 1981. For more information on the history of the Mill and its workers, visit our on-site museum Heritage Winooski .

From the early eighties through the new millennium the Champlain Mill was alive and vibrant with the warmth and vitality of an eclectic assortment of unique boutiques and eateries. As the vision of a new downtown for Winooski started to take shape, many of the retail shops either closed or retired to avoid the impending construction. Today, however, we are nearly full with an assortment of entrepreneurial businesses, including Waterworks Restaurant , Market Fresh Catering , New Breed Marketing, The Engraving Bench and Fine Gifts , and the Locker Room - retail store and ticket office for The Vermont Expos. The vision of a new downtown Winooski moved closer to reality on June 7, 2004 when Governor Douglas joined the City in the Official Groundbreaking Ceremony .

Please visit us here often for the latest updates on accessing the Mill during the construction phase. We will be here….We will be open…….. and we will have the best view of one of the “largest and most anticipated downtown redevelopment projects in Vermont history.
